Before you jump into a business plan, you needd to invest a considerable amount of time and effort into understanding what your wants and needs really are and maybe more importantly, taking a realistic assessment of where you are today.  If you do not FULLY understand where you are today and where you want to go, how can you create a plan?  There are many organizations and consultants that can provide help in making a plan and want you to start now but if the statistics are correct, 80% or more of business plans fail to create successful businesses (defined as in business more than 5 years).  Having a business plan is not the answer so maybe you’re asking the wrong questions!  If you think that you will be successful in today’s environment just because you have a good business plan, odds are you will fall into that 80% failure group.  Do you really have the desire, committment and fortitude to do the things necessry to improve those odds?
